THE SHELBOURNE
Situated in the heart of Ireland’s capital city and blessed with a view of the beautiful St. Stephen’s Green, The Shelbourne is one of Ireland’s favourite destinations for visitors around the globe and has been the center of Dublin’s social and cultural life for nearly 200 years.NOTEWORTHY
The Shelbourne hotel is steeped in history, some of the most legendary and famous people from all walks of life have passed through its doors, including the late John F. Kennedy and his wife Jacqueline, who first visited the Shelbourne in 1958. The hotel was originally named Burke’s after its owner at the time, Martin Burke, who had then decided that the building needed a grander title. The Shelbourne took its name after the second Earl of Shelburne taking artistic license and adding an o to the word. By 1866, The Shelbourne was re-built by Irish Victorian architect John McCurdy after it had changed hands to new owners Messrs. Jury, Cotton, and Goodman.
