When I think back of clients with deep generational ties, one such celebration springs to mind. It took place at Dromoland Castle in County Clare.
The wedding brought together generations of a family returning to Ireland for the first time in decades. Over five days, family and friends travelled from across the United States and Europe to the homeland the bride’s grandparents had once left behind.
We designed a celebration that honoured both Ireland and the family’s own history.
The five-day gathering included two wedding ceremonies, an adventure to the iconic Cliffs of Moher. Poetically, guests stood together looking out across the Atlantic, the same ocean two young dreamers once crossed toward America, where this story began. Evenings were spent in snug Irish pubs with regional delicacies, music and storytelling. All before the celebration culminated with a zestful wedding at the castle.

What made the celebration exceptional was the level of exclusivity. With the castle privately reserved, the celebration unfolded throughout the original rooms of the estate rather than being confined to the ballroom wing.
Guests gathered in the historic dining room and drawing room, spaces that once formed the centre of the O’Brien family home. The evening moved naturally from one room to the next, creating a sense of intimacy that is rarely possible in modern venues.
In many ways it felt less like hosting an event in a castle and more like returning to a family house that had simply been waiting for its next celebration. We removed the existing furnishings and brought in our own. This allowed us to completely rethink the space, shaping the flow, positioning performances as focal points, and carefully designing the food experience.
Particular attention was given to how service moved through the rooms, ensuring everything felt harmonious and natural. Theatre had space to emerge, with high-energy moments balanced by moments of breath and pause.
One of my favourite elements was the entrance. Guests descended from their rooms into the space, where the walls were lined with portraits of the O’Brien family, quite literally walking past history and into the moment.
Celebrating Ireland Without Cliché

How do you honour the culture of the country without turning the event into a theme?
